Jonathan Davenport Claims Second Straight Lucas Oil Title!
(October 20, 2019) “Superman” Jonathan Davenport officially claimed his second straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship and his third title overall over the October 18-19 weekend at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio! Jonathan timed in eighth fastest in Group A during qualifying on Friday night prior to securing a triumph in his heat race. After earning the seventh most points in preliminary action, JD started Saturday’s 100-lap ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ from the inside of the fourth row.
The Blairsville, Georgia standout then ran amongst the top ten early in the $100,000 to win crown jewel spectacular before he drew a lap 40 caution flag due to a deflating Hoosier tire. Jonathan then returned to the racetrack at the tail end of the feature field – with fresh rubber – and was able to salvage an apparent ninth place performance. However, after the race, series officials deemed that Jonathan did not have a flat right rear tire when he drew the caution and changed tires, which unfortunately disqualified him and dropped him to twenty-sixth in the final finishing order of the DTWC.
