Level Up Your Knowledge With A Hands-On S3 Shock Class

Racers and riders know few more thrilling experiences than taking a corner at speed and handling it flawlessly.

Having the confidence in your suspension to do so is a tremendous advantage in competition. But it takes a level of optimization few competitors enjoy and requires a team with a wealth of experience and knowledge to pull it off.

If you’re reading this, you may not have that experience yet. Or perhaps you still feel this is an area where you have a lot to learn. And that’s okay—everyone has to start somewhere.

Shocks play a critical role in how your car handles on the track, and learning how to tune them effectively can make all the difference in your performance.

Our hands-on workshop will teach you everything you need to know about these critical components, from their basic construction to the best ways to adjust them for different track conditions. You’ll leave the class with a deeper understanding of shocks and the skills necessary to get the most out of your suspension.

The S3 Shock Class: Your Path To Shock Optimization Starts Here

Winners know their racing suspension and how it works as a whole. They know that adjusting their shock setup affects their suspension and often support changes with data.

You have two choices for shock optimization education.

You can learn through trial and error on the track and in your workshop, or you can supercharge your education by taking a shock class with some of the industry’s best technicians.

Penske Racing Shocks provide custom-built shocks, and every shock is custom engineered and hand-built. We help you with the setup, so you get the most out of our products, and then we support you with our expertise and knowledge.

This is the essence of our S3 program, and our shock classes are an extension of this process. Our S3 shock class will help you reach the next level with shock optimization through customized education opportunities and support.

Learn From The Experts

There is no substitute for experience and garnering good experience takes time and skin in the game. But that doesn’t mean you can, or should, go it alone. One way to gain good experience quickly is to learn from the experts.

This is what we offer with our S3 Shock Class.

Penske Racing Shocks has been working in the high-performance motorsports field for over 30 years. We support professional racing teams in every discipline and level of competition. That includes Formula 1, NASCAR, INDYCAR, FIA World Endurance, NHRA, and MotoGP, among many others.

We bring that diversified experience to our shock class, so you benefit and grow as a racer and a tech.

Learn Every Step In the Suspension Tuning Process

You can’t skip the race suspension tuning basics or cut corners when learning how to optimize your suspension. From knowing the right components to shock adjustments, there are steps involved that a shock class will cover, so you develop a working knowledge of your setup.

Our shock specialist instructors teach the techniques of suspension assembly, disassembly, setup, valving, and shock dyno graph interpretation.

We customize each class to the students. Our courses are taught by our own expert PRS shock specialists, and they’ve spent years honing their craft, experimenting with various settings, and working with racers to get the perfect setup.

VIRTUAL TRAINING: Shock 101 Training Course

Not ready for a full-day class? Check out our virtual shock class!

Introducing the Penske Racing Shocks virtual Shock 101 Training Course. This online course includes over 2 hours of education and training that will empower you to understand your shocks better and give you the confidence to apply this knowledge to your application and improve performance.

Every Class Is Personalized To The Students

All drivers and riders are not the same. Of course, everyone wants to win, and racers want to have the fastest car or bike. But everyone has different preferences and unique tendencies. As long as humans race cars and motorcycles, individual setups are crucial.

The same goes for learning and understanding suspension. How one racer learns and soaks in knowledge will differ from another, and shock classes should cater to that.

Our S3 shock class is limited to three students, and it’s hands-on. This allows us to personalize instruction to the class attendees, customizing the curriculum to fit their needs and knowledge level.

The hands-on element of this course gives our students direct experience handling shocks, which we consider an invaluable learning resource.

What Topics Do We Typically Cover?

Racers have a wide range of abilities, from enthusiasts wanting to set up their own shocks to professionals wishing to advance their knowledge and optimize their suspension. We don’t discriminate, and to that end, we’ll cover a range of topics.

  • Review the technical manual - Familiarize yourself with the shock specifications and our recommendations for fitting and servicing your shocks.
  • Assemble and disassemble shocks - Dig deeper into shock technology and how springs, damping, oil, and how adjustments work. Analyze individual components and their function. Familiarize yourself with proper terminology and the different pieces that make up the shock. This will help speed up the learning curve.
  • Adjuster explanation - What can you adjust and how? Learn how geometry affects handling and how to adjust it. Dive into compression and rebound damping for optimization. Determine when you might need to bleed your shocks. Learn about gas pressure and how it affects your shocks, and how you can tune with gas pressure.
  • Piston options - From digressive to linear and progressive, find out all you need to know about the different types of pistons and how they affect performance.
  • Tuning your shocks - Determine the differences and nuances between high-speed and low-speed damping and why shock tuning could be the difference between winning and losing.
  • Dyno work - Read, understand, and most importantly, interpret what shock dyno graphs tell you so you can fine-tune your suspension.
  • Class Review - The hands-on experience will hopefully help what you’ve learned stick. The end of the class will include technical questions and an open form discussion.
